Create Entertaining, Authoritative Content
The thing to remember about social media is that people are there to be entertained. So, if you want more engagement, create entertaining content they want to engage with. Right now, I am doing personal brand-building for our official brand X (Twitter) account. What I am about to write below works!
You are thinking correctly about providing value, but you also have to balance it with the authority factor—a bit of a PR game. Let's say I find your comment on the AI subject interesting and decide to look you up. In one scenario, I see in your bio that you are a manager or engineer at X company, and in another, I see that you are an 'AI expert, blah blah, Specialist. I research and write about...'. These two different biographies will shape different perceptions of your comment. I am sure you got the idea. If you have truly useful content in the eyes of others and project some kind of authority, you will start getting followers.
Target Content with Prizes
To boost engagement, it's crucial to create content that is entertaining and that people want to engage with. This requires a targeted approach. For example, offering a prize that only your target market would desire, or if you're a local business, requiring the prize to be claimed in person. This strategy ensures that your efforts are focused and effective.
Craft Captions and Engage Community
Learning how to measure Instagram engagement is one thing; growing it is a whole other venture.
There are a few different things to consider when improving your engagement. You'll want to craft compelling captions in your brand voice that resonate. This is your space dedicated to providing actual value to your followers! In those captions, include inviting calls to action that prompt action. This will urge your followers to engage with your account further.
Compelling captions alone, however, are not enough. Genuine community management will take your account to the next level. Always respond to all DMs and comments!
Finally, have an understanding of when and how frequently to post so your posts are live when your followers are online.
Remember, in the realm of social media, engagement is more than just a metric. It's the heartbeat of your brand's relationship with its audience.
Produce High-Volume Quality Content
We value the volume of content at a minimum level of quality. As long as we can meet or exceed that level of quality, we like to put out large volumes of content and look back over time to understand the types of content that resonate through engagement. Thus, we learn how to create more engaging content, and by creating at scale, we drive up engagement, even if any single piece of content has a low engagement rate.
Spark Controversy to Fuel Engagement
One tactic that really worked for me on TikTok was sparking a bit of controversy. I'd help my client script and record a short video with a bold opinion that got people riled up—either they totally loved it, they were opposed to it, or it got them curious. The goal was to get people talking and sharing in the comments (good or bad), which totally worked!
TikTok is the perfect place for this because people there aren't shy about speaking their minds. When I do this, I keep an eye on how many were watching till the end, the comments they left, and how much they shared. My key metrics? Average watch time, retention, comments, and shares. It's all about seeing if you've hit the nail on the head to get people talking and keep them watching.
The trickiest part? Creating controlled chaos. It's like walking a tightrope—you want to shake things up but not start a wildfire. So, I'd pick topics that matter but aren't too heavy and that are industry-specific. It's all in the prep—you always have to evaluate the risk and be ready for your audience's response in the comments.
An example of this was when my lash artist client took a stance on a situation that a lot of lash extension wearers experience: getting red eyes after their appointments. While some lash techs will say this is a normal thing, she decided to say the opposite. She shared that red eyes are, in fact, not a normal thing and that they are a result of a technical issue. The result? Her comments (over 100 of them) were flooded with stories from lash extension wearers claiming they have experienced this and had no idea it was not normal. The other half was from lash techs asking for advice, supporting the video, or asking for more information. It also helped her position herself as an expert.
This approach isn't for the faint-hearted. It's about going all in, and taking a stand. The best viral stuff usually makes people feel something strong, right? That's what I was going for.
For others wanting to try this, it's all about knowing your audience inside out. Dig into what they're talking about, especially the hot topics. It's a bold move, but it can really be worth it as long as you stay true to your brand.
Utilize Strategic Mentions and Tags
At 360 Engagement, LLC, we've uncovered the key to elevating social media engagement: deploying strategic mentions and tags. By ensuring that your posts directly connect with your network—be it dedicated dealers, representatives, employees, or cherished customers—you establish a personalized touchpoint that significantly enhances the likelihood of driving engagement.
Tagging individuals not only amplifies visibility but also nurtures a sense of community. Don't overlook the transformative potential of a well-crafted call to action; it serves as the catalyst for fostering meaningful interactions. Pose a question, make a simple request—these prompts not only encourage engagement but also contribute to reshaping your social media into a responsive platform. Lastly, never underestimate the impact of a compelling headline for your post.
